I went into this movie with very low expectations, and I had a blast. After watching the film with friends we went out to eat and I think the main thing that came to mind was this was pretty much Thor: Love and Thunder, but with out the context of the MCU. Let me explain...
Let me do this without it being a Thor: Love and Thunder review... Where this movie has comedy, and sometimes very silly comedy it works for the overall story. There is no prior stakes, and context that gets in the way of the humor. I personally think Thor: Love and Thunder has problems in those areas in regards to the silliness of the comedy. Not being far enough away from very serious Infinity War and Endgame.
This film doesn't have any baggage. Maybe besides being from a massive tabletop franchise, but this allows the fans to enjoy themselves without taking themselves too seriously. Really love the shot when the Red Mage senses the shapeshifter posing as a fly in the chandelier. Surprisingly fun and a great watch. Will through it on in the background sooner rather than later.
