*Blows nose* This wholesome and heart wrenching love story requires a large amount of tissues… you’ve been warned!
With that being said, it was one of the best romantic dramas I’ve seen in a long time. Not once throughout did I feel like there was too much cheese and all the performances held true to the reality of the story. Emilia Clark perfectly plays a quirky, innocent and yet so relatable female lead who is down on her luck. Alongside her is Sam Claflin who exceptionally portrays a paraplegic wealthy young banker, who’s life took a tragic turn and has lost himself to his circumstances. Emilia’s character is then hired as caregiver to none other than the aforementioned wealthy paraplegic man. Need I say more? For those who are into troupes, this follows the classic grumpy/sunshine troupe to a T.
I do think this film did a fantastic job of showing a multitude of viewpoints on life after a tragic event. Highlighting things often not thought about if you are an able bodied person but which are realities for many who live a similar life. This film also has a very french ending which can be off putting to many but only made me love it more because I believe it better represents love in real life. Love changes us in the best way and there is never enough time with those we love.
This film definitely pulls at the heartstrings with a semi truck regardless of its criticisms of insensitivity towards its subject matter. As far as a classic love story goes, It definitely hit its mark and my heart.
