If you’re looking for a good old fashioned (Hallmark style) cheesy romance this is a great pick! This film does a good job of making its corniest moments funny, feeling very modern in its setting and all the while servicing Celine Dion fans of all ages with hit after hit to sing along to.
Priyanka Chopra plays an independent minority woman who faces heartfelt struggles with work, love and loss so we get a bit more depth to a female character than the traditional “pick me” romances. Her counterpart, played by Sam Heughan, portrays his usual funny and endearing leading role that no doubt appeals to the ladies. I did enjoy that his arc shows a sensitive guy learning to gain confidence in himself again, how to better communicate and be supportive in a relationship. Unlike the usual gruff bad boy who would rather eat nails than say what’s on his mind. Groundbreaking stuff here, ha!
This film knows exactly who its demographic is and to that it successfully delivered. However, if you’re a big film enthusiast the continuity, CGI and editing did leave something to be desired. Something to keep in mind if you can’t see past those things when watching a movie. Overall, it was a fun watch and I enjoyed feeling the familiar squeeze of … love again.
